Hazelnut

The farm extends for 10 hectares: our plants are between 8 and 30 years old. All our hazelnuts are in the circuit of the Hazelnut Control of Piedmont PGI (Protected Geographic Indication). The harvest of hazelnuts, after the agronomic practices laid down in the Integrated Pest Management (IPM), is done between August and September. Once harvested, the hazelnuts are dried in the sun and selected in order to continue the path of transformation of shelling and roasting in partner’s labs. The so processed product comes back in our farm and goes trough a last quality check, then its packed as required from clients.

THE BEEKEEPING

We have about 100 families of bees, each of these is composed of a queen, the only one who is albe to lay eggs, and up to 70,000 individuals during the productive season. The social composition of bee’s families is divided in to foraging bees who collect pollen, attendants bees who take care of the hive and drones, necessary for reproduction. Once ended the main blooms (dandelion, acacia, chestnut tree, rhododendron, multi flowers and forest honeydew) honey is excreted from supers trough centrifugation, left decant in ripeners for 20 days and then packaged for sale.

In order to guarantee more wellness to bees, we make a nomadic beekeeping following the main blooms during the productive season.

  • A queen bee can lay up to 2000 eggs per day.

  • Each family of bees is made up of a queen and up to 70,000 individuals.

THE GARDEN

The area dedicated to cultivation extends for about 1 hectare on the flat and irrigated terrains.

The vegetables’ production is divided, depending on the different seasons of the year, between zucchini, tomatoes, spinaches, broad beans, beans, potatoes, onions, peppers, strawberries and pumpkins. Some of these products are sold fresh directly or trough established channels, the others are brought in laboratory and dried preparing them for the winter.

All of our products are mainly intended for direct sale in markets/ tarde fairs, at the farm or privately with the possibility of shipping; another part is sold to chosen shops in Piedmont or trough e-commerce.
